A 12-month fellowship awarded by the University of California, Davis to doctoral students who demonstrate strong potential for university teaching and research. Awardees demonstrate the potential to contribute to higher education through the understanding of the barriers facing women, domestic minorities, students with disabilities, and members of other groups underrepresented in higher education careers, as evidenced by life experiences and educational background.

The Ruth B. Mandel Dissertation Research Awards were established in honor of the founding director for the Center for American Women in Politics, Ruth B. Mandel. The Mandel Awards support dissertation research on women, gender, and U.S. politics and are $2,000 each in value.
